Overview

This is an opportunity to join the Continental Europe Power Trading department at a global energy company with over 20 years of trading experience across power, gas, LNG, LPG, oil, and environmental products. The business operates across London, Paris, Singapore, and Houston, serving clients and group entities worldwide through expert risk management and asset optimisation.

The role sits across the Spanish Power Desk and the Nordic Power Desk, supporting proprietary trading activity in line with commercial objectives. It is designed for an early-career professional who will begin with a strong focus on execution and progressively take on greater responsibility for managing complex trades and developing independent strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate proprietary trading activity across the Spanish Power Desk and the Nordic Power Desk in line with commercial objectives.
  • Execute collaboratively built trading strategies, growing into an expert role with increasing ownership of complex trades.
  • Define trading and portfolio optimisation strategy and contribute to its ongoing development.
  • Maintain and develop tools that enhance the desk\'s operational capabilities as part of ongoing project responsibilities.
  • Cooperate with the wider commercial team to advance commercial objectives.
  • Work with the analyst team to improve understanding of optimisation models, with a particular focus on hydro assets.
  • Maintain accurate P&L validations and controls.
  • Adhere to Front Office Supervision Procedures at all times and complete the required annual attestation.

Skills & Experience

  • Up to three years of experience working in power markets.
  • Demonstrated modelling, coding, and tool-building capabilities; proficiency in Python, VBA, and SQL or MongoDB is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of short-term power markets.
  • Understanding of hydro asset optimisation.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced trading environment.
  • Understanding of trade lifecycle and risk controls.
  • Strong analytical skills with rigorous attention to detail.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across commercial and analytical teams.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and capable of working autonomously.
  • Performance-driven with a team-oriented mindset.
